The Questionable Business Practices at Alticor/Amway/Quixtar™

MLMs (Multi-Level Marketing companies)--I knew a neighborhood family some 30-years-ago who were very odd. The parents had been in the Air Force and raised their son to be a military-drone (he thankfully escaped this fate of being an officer as far as I can tell and has a family now), indoctrinating him in some extremely wacky right-wing, militaristic and over-the-top marketplace ideologies.

That's right, I'm talking about that bizarre triangulation of Amway, the Air Force, and the "prosperity gospel" (and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" fans for good measure). And yet, it's worse than that...

The father was a forensic-pathologist who did blood-analysis (and could've been Jeffrey Dahmer's pa'), and had the personality of a cod. He and "the wife" had met each other while serving in the U.S. Air Force, that domain of religious, fanatical theocratic Christians, patriotic kookdom, and Moonies. What attracts these kind of sick people to that particular branch of the military deserves extensive studies by social scientists everywhere, though there are some statistics out there.

But, these people never made any money on Amway,™ they just bought the stupid--and by-all-appearances--overpriced and lousy products, and they were stuck with them. That was alright, but I was concerned for their son, and he was a friend whom I cared about.

One time, the Air Force mother came to our door and attempted to sell my mother some of the lousy products, and used the standard sell that Amway's™ known so well for (known so well for that they changed their name to "Quixtar,™" then back to Amway™:
they try to make you feel inferior if you don't buy their products.

Yes, it's that sick, and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed since that now-distant time, but my mother's a smart cookie and she didn't respond well to it. There would be no sell, not ever.

Why do I bring this particular subject up? For a variety of reasons: I'm uncertain, but I believe my co-researcher on the Palfrey "defense team" (for want of a better term), Monique Rawlings, might work for Alticor.™ It might mean nothing-at-all, but it's strange someone working for them would be involved in such endeavors. Make of it what-you-will, because I don't know what to.

So, I was doing a lot of searching on Alticor™ today, and found some very interesting articles that partly-corroborated my childhood experiences with Amway and whatnot. According to a growing number of CPAs, institutions, and watchdogs, Amway™ is little more than a "pyramid scheme." This has been my own impression since childhood, yet somehow they continue to exist and do whatever it is they're doing these days, which appears to be the same as it was around 1978. Great.

One site really was spot-on in what I've learned from experience: Forensic CPA Tracy Coenen's http://www.sequence-inc.com/, which covers a range of similar subjects, an impressive site by an impressive woman. She does a pretty good job of expressing why these kind of firms are a "scam" that preys on the desperate and the troubled, a contention I tend to agree with. These links are to articles that aren't that new, but strike me as still being relevant, like my anecdotes on the subject.

I'm unsurprised, frankly, that Palfrey would surround herself with people from the corporate world. She was a small-business (depending on what you would call "small," though she decidedly petit-bourgeois in her attitudes) employer in her own way, and shared many of the same attitudes.

Palfrey's courting of the "legitimate press" speaks-volumes to such attitudes, as well as a cursory examination of what we know about how she ran her escort service (check Intelwire.com for more). It was all about the money, sad, and it probably brought about her death by her own hand. She wanted the "big time," the big money. Maybe that's why it's easier for those like her to claim she was murdered, and that she was "innocent." Neither case appears to be true at all, further revelations notwithstanding.

Will we see Katrina II?

The Gulf Coast--I doubt it, there's too much to lose, but never count the GOP out for screw-ups, incompetence, and indifference for the lives of other Americans. But nature is going to do her do, whether we like it or not. This is comforting.

And isn't it lovely? Isn't it wonderful that Gloria Vanderbilt's love child Anderson Cooper is down in New Orleans, readied to report rumor-as-fact again so he can get another promotion to support his materialistic lifestyle? Who said good things don't come out of disasters? They were lying, but we're used to that here.

And isn't it comforting to know that no substantial upgrades or changes have been made to the levee system in New Orleans? Can you feel it? Can you feel that American can-do spirit? I sure can, and I love it, I feel proud!!

And imagine all of the would-be documentarians out there with their HD video-cameras, poised to record more of the disintegration of America, and maybe not making a truckload of money like the producers and distributors who sell the cable rights and the DVDs, mind you, but having something kick-ass on their infotainment and McBlogger resumes?

No, it's a great time to be an American, especially if you have those really big-stilts and those boots to walk over the top of the wreckage. Harry Shearer, I share your angst.

Yes, there's a spirit in the air, alright...and it's time to call-in an exorcist, pronto, shit!

[Ed.--Some jackass commenter named "Anonymous" has suggested that I'm being "untruthful" in calling Cooper Gloria Vanderbilt's "love child," that he was actually born in-wedlock...as though I care about such trivialities. Right, he was born in-wedlock, but he's still a stupid, over-ambitious moronic bastard. Big deal.]

The GOP Convention: Hurricane Gustav is coming! Hurricane Gustav is coming! Hurricane Gustav is coming!

Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota--God, this is my own little humble prayer (and curse) on the Republican Party, perhaps the most violent, exploitative, criminal enterprise the world has ever known: may NOT ONE human being die in New Orleans or along the Gulf Coast, but make it clear that the Bush administration has done NOTHING to properly repair things in New Orleans, because that's the fact.

Make the Republican obstructionism of aid to the Gulf Coast loud-and-clear while Vice President George W. Bush and President Dick Cheney are attempting speech during the convention. Make-it-plain that Karl Rove is not a "genius," but a catastrophe with lots of money behind him, expediting chaos for America in a way only a monkey could manage.

And let this--God--wreck the GOP, let it bring-about their demise as a criminal party. And God, splinter the Democratic Party after that, because they're hardly any better. German soldiers of during WWI and WWII wore "Gott mitt uns" on their belt-buckles, just as the GOP claims that you are on their side. This is doubtful.

Now we're hearing that John McCain is altering the program at the convention in-response to the hurricane that is bearing-down on New Orleans once again, just three-years from the time that a GOP-led government failed us all. And they have kept doing so ever since with all the other disasters that have happened since then. And now, we're hearing that Vice President Bush isn't going to speak at the GOP's convention and is heading down to the Gulf--that must be a relief!

The GOP is right: government doesn't work...when they're in office.

"Bush points to sign that economy is on upswing"

Washington D.C.--You can't say he doesn't have a sense of humor. It's just that it's only funny iffin' yer rich. Keep talking, asshole, keep talking. And hasn't Alex Jones been effective? You might think so iffin' yer stupid. Welcome to A'murka, the end-point of humanity!

Question: Are Orrick, Herrington, & Sutcliffe working with the Palfrey Estate (and others) to recover additional DC Madam "assets"?

Jeane Palfrey: "Matt, nobody has a monopoly on the truth."

The Shadow World--In a conference call that occurred between myself, Los Angeles attorney Sam Deskin, and my co-researcher Monique Rawlings ("Bil"/"SP Biloxi"), Deskin began talking about how Palfrey couldn't have made the $2.2 million that she and the government were claiming from 1993-2006.

From looking at the phone lists covering 13 years in-detail, it seems
mathematically impossible that that was all that she accrued from her escort service. This unprompted topic from Deskin wasn't news to my ears--I'd considered it as early as May of 2007. The conference call was around late-February of this year. Just two-days-later, Palfrey would forward everyone connected to or on the defense team itself an e-mail stating she wasn't going to be taken alive.

I agreed with Deskin, guilt or innocence aside. Rawlings was non-plussed, and I assume that she and journalist Jason Leopold still wrong-headedly cling to the assertion that Palfrey was somehow "innocent." Well yes--until proven guilty, and I believed by the end that she was, and I still do. That's their mistake to make, and I have no problem with them continuing down that road.

But "guilt" wasn't the central issue to me anyway, rather that the defendant wasn't receiving due process and needed help. At the time of the teleconference call (my first ever!), I was only tangentially-connected to the defense, was unpaid, and I was tiring of all the back-stabbing that most assuredly went on without my direct knowledge. In addition, the "client" was acting very erratically, and I'd had enough. By March 18th, it was over, and I never heard from her again. By May 1st, she had committed suicide. It was a crushing-blow that I assumed was coming in some form since last summer.

Palfrey told me herself on a few occasions that she was very well-traveled, and recommended it to me. Yeah, sure. Always the Sphinx, she seemed to be telling me more than she was on the surface. That's what was so unique about our correspondence--she communicated things to me that I don't believe she did with anyone else, though it was often coded by an indirectness and euphemism. And this all brings me to the nexus of why she approached me for aid: I had written in a couple of observational pieces on her case that both she and the government were lying. But what about? Why would the prosecution and the defense lie in a case like hers? The money, and where the rest of it was.

I believe it's out there in offshore accounts, waiting, like pirate treasure, like booty. I believe that the government is trying to recover the money for nefarious purposes, probably through Orrick, Herrington, & Sutcliffe. Why? Because they offices in over 18 nations, including Russia, China--you-name-it. Orrick does business with the United States Government routinely, and one of their attorneys--Preston Burton--now works with and administers the estate of the deceased DC Madam with other Orrick sub-firms. This is extremely convenient, and together with the government, they'll probably find that money...if it's in-fact out there. Like Poe's "The Gold Bug," and the late Jeane Palfrey, it's an encrypted riddle. Which narrative will hold? Which narrative is correct? Nobody seems to know.

Even though it's likely that Jeane would have kicked myself and others to the curb had she won her case, I cannot escape the strong desire that she had survived all of this. The government ensured that this would not occur, and they did their best to hide and to protect her influential clients as well as the putrid picture of American politics and economy that will eventually emerge from the primary materials. Truth crushed to earth rises again.

J to the Power of 7's new searchability

J-7--I didn't care to do this until recently. Why? I just saw no reason, and hey, this ain't McDonald's--the customer is always wrong here. Enjoy, and hit the topics, "DC Madam," "David Vitter, and "Ronald Roughead" for plenty of yucks and thwagglings of the ultraviolent.

See? See how easy it works? Even Naval Intelligence ops can do it (under orders of CNO Gary Roughead, natch):

Songs from the Site Meter: A Cluster of Visits Over the Deskin-Palfrey E-mails and Commentary Over Their Meaning

Site Meter--This is an interesting cluster from a few different geographical locations, mainly on L.A. attorney Sam Deskin, as well as related issues surrounding the DC Madam saga. The San Rafael address is interesting--is it a member of the Palfrey family? Could be.

It could be "Bobbie" Palfrey, Palfrey's younger sister. The location fits, but then, it could be a positive-hit for another Orrick office (they were founded in San Francisco with a major office there), or associate who lives in nearby San Rafael.

Question: why did the government erroneously claim that the late Jeane Palfrey had assets totaling over $2 million. It doesn't fit, the math doesn't work. Palfrey told this writer she was extremely "well-traveled," which her voluminous phone records attest to. There are many calls to various embassies of various nations.

Was she creating offshore accounts? It's a pregnant contention that deserves greater attention. With offices in over 18 major nations, I'm sure that Orrick, Herrington, & Sutcliffe are up for the job of recovering what could be several million unreported dollars that federal investigators couldn't peg on Palfrey. Who's going to get it? Is their relationship with the federal government a conflict-of-interest? Is that a foregone conclusion? What's going on here?

As it stands, the federal government is claiming that the "investigation is ongoing." Offshore accounts could be the reason why, and who knows what Preston Burton is up to, apparently expediting the Estate of Deborah Jeane Palfrey for her surviving family members. Curiouser and curiouser (softly, softly, catchee monkey).

Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich's speech to the Democratic National Convention, and the American public

Denver, Colorado--I still cannot believe the DNC allowed him to make this speech, as they haven't exactly been supportive of him. Now that the Populist message is--well--"popular" again, they had little choice. But where was Russell Feingold or Patrick Leahy?

Of course, we know the condition was that he didn't spell-out that many Democrats aided-and-abetted the Bush administration and still are, but, what the hell? It's good to see and hear the truth for a change, and he sounds an awful lot like Ralph Nader.

Now, if only candidate Obama would start walking and talking like Mr. Kucinich, a man I wish was my representative. Joe Donnelly has decided to be on the wrong side of history, to his eternal shame and ignominy. He'll be remembered alright, just not fondly by anyone with a clue (or food, water, and batteries for flashlights in the ruins of civilization). Thanks Joe, you remind me that there are plenty of incumbents in the Democratic Party who have to go, and you're one of them.

The
Speech:

It’s Election Day 2008. We Democrats are giving America a wake-up call. Wake up, America. In 2001, the oil companies, the war contractors and the neo-con artists seized the economy and have added 4 trillion dollars of unproductive spending to the national debt. We now pay four times more for defense, three times more for gasoline and home heating oil and twice what we paid for health care.

Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, their homes, their health care, their pensions. Trillions of dollars for an unnecessary war paid with borrowed money. Tens of billions of dollars in cash and weapons disappeared into thin air, at the cost of the lives of our troops and innocent Iraqis, while all the president’s oilmen are maneuvering to grab Iraq’s oil.

Borrowed money to bomb bridges in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. No money to rebuild bridges in America. Money to start a hot war with Iran. Now we have another cold war with Russia, while the American economy has become a game of Russian roulette.

If there was an Olympics for misleading, mismanaging and misappropriating, this administration would take the gold. World records for violations of national and international laws. They want another four-year term to continue to alienate our allies, spend our children’s inheritance and hollow out our economy.

We can’t afford another Republican administration. Wake up, America. The insurance companies took over health care. Wake up, America. The pharmaceutical companies took over drug pricing. Wake up, America. The speculators took over Wall Street. Wake up, America. They want to take your Social Security. Wake up, America. Multinational corporations took over our trade policies, factories are closing, good paying jobs lost.

Wake up, America. We went into Iraq for oil. The oil companies want more. War against Iran will mean $10-a-gallon gasoline. The oil administration wants to drill more, into your wallet. Wake up, America. Weapons contractors want more. An Iran war will cost 5 to 10 trillion dollars.

This administration can tap our phones. They can’t tap our creative spirit. They can open our mail. They can’t open economic opportunities. They can track our every move. They lost track of the economy while the cost of food, gasoline and electricity skyrockets. They skillfully played our post-9/11 fears and allowed the few to profit at the expense of the many. Every day we get the color orange, while the oil companies, the insurance companies, the speculators, the war contractors get the color green.

Wake up, America! This is not a call for you to take a new direction from right to left. This is call for you to go from down to up. Up with the rights of workers. Up with wages. Up with fair trade. Up with creating millions of good paying jobs, rebuilding our bridges, ports and water systems. Up with creating millions of sustainable energy jobs to lower the cost of energy, lower carbon emissions and protect the environment.

Up with health care for all! Up with education for all! Up with home ownership! Up with guaranteed retirement benefits. Up with peace! Up with prosperity! Up with the Democratic Party! Up with Obama-Biden!

Wake up, America! Wake up, America! Wake up, America!

Songs from the Site Meter: A Visit Over the Deskin-Palfrey E-mails

Site Meter--They're not coming down, not now, not ever. They are part of our history, and the public has a right to know what happened. I never signed anything, or agreed to any contract during my whole correspondence with Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the "DC Madam." Roll out the Pinkertons, boys, we got a live one here.

Question: does Sam Deskin and his firm have any association with Preston Burton and Orrick, Herrington, & Sutcliffe?

It wouldn't surprise me, or others who were involved in the DC Madam saga, but the fact is that they're a global law firm with nearly 1,000 attorneys in their employ in around 18 countries. Oh yeah, and Orrick's visited this site in the past. I assume they'll be back now. Are Burton and associates at Orrick working on a book on the late-Jeane Palfrey? One would imagine.

Joe Donnelly, Republican

South Bend, Indiana/Indiana's 2nd Congressional District--I highly doubt I was the only one outraged by Rep. Joe Donnelly's ad. While the GOP is actually learning that demanding for more offshore-drilling and ditto for Alaska's ANWAR....Donnelly is picking-up their talking points. In the ad, he accuses "Congress" of not doing anything, and begging-the-question that we need to drill for oil in Alaska.

That's exactly what the GOP has been hitting us with for months. The funny thing is, he actually had a demeanor of "Oh shit, now I have to say things I don't want to." It was pathetic, and I expect the ads to be dropped. They don't appear to be running today, and they couldn't have played well with a public that knows full-well that we have to get off of oil, and pronto.

Joe Donnelly: he's acting like a businessman, rather than a leader. Absurd, and all the evidence one needs to support the argument for the foundation of very serious third parties.

American Elections: The Skinny

A'murka--We are a nation of apathetic voters. Granted, after Watergate, it's been hard to believe the system here is anything but utter bullshit, a joke. Agreed. But the subsequent voter apathy hasn't made things any better, has it?

That's how Ronald Reagan and the rest of the jackapes that have come afterwards
(and before that) have gotten into office . When Reagan ran in 1980, the voter turnout was in the 20-percentile range. Reagan won less-than-half of that, which means that less than 10% of eligible voters elected him. That's not a mandate at all, and calling it "the Reagan revolution" was apropos--then-and-now.

The 2006 midterms show some hope that things can change: we reached the 30-percentile range of voter turnout. That's still not very good, but it's going to have to do. Only the American people can bring about the loss of the franchise (the right to vote) now. When you have that range, a candidate like George W. Bush is only getting 10-15% of the actual range of eligible voters. No mandate there, which is OK with the Republicans, though they never let that stop them. That should tell you something about them and their attitudes towards democracy.

The GOP and the DNC feed on your poor response to your own cynicism of our political and economic system. There is nothing more irresponsible than not voting in a democracy. If you don't really care, why hang around? Why have children? Why not stay in bed and eat ice cream all of the time?

But enough about Mississippi--we all need to vote. And that's not going to be enough: you must start to and remain active in the political process for life. It's the most responsible thing to do. Otherwise, you have no credibility whatsoever. Part of the current crisis is all the dodging of responsibility and accountability we've all engaged in over the last 30 years.

This situation must--and will--end. Responsibility isn't just for the rest of us either: it means everybody, or democracy and reasonable law and order and vacant words without meaning. If you don't understand this, you don't understand democracy and why it's preferable to other systems of government. So, what are you supposed to do? Get off your dead-asses, get informed (decide for yourself), demand accountability of politicians and yourself and your neighbors, and REGISTER TO VOTE.

The Nader Campaign on Senator Joe Biden (more-to-come)

Ralph Nader for President 2008

August 26, 2008

www.officialnaderstore.com

Drop $39 now on Nader/Gonzalez.

Why?

To protest Obama's choice of the Senator from MasterCard for VP.

That would be Senator Biden.

(By donating $39 now to the Nader Media Fund, you'll be helping us report more on Mr. Plastic in the days to come, but for starters, check out this account of how Biden fronted for the credit card companies in Congress.)

Why drop $39 now?

As a protest against the VP candidate from MasterCard.

Because $39 is key rip off number for the credit card industry.

Let's say you miss your credit card payment by one day.

What does the credit card company do?

Exactly.

They sock you with a $39 late fee.

And now, if Obama/Biden win the election, MasterCard and Visa will have a lock on the White House.

And who will stand up to the credit card industry and tell them -- no more rip off late fees?

Obama/Biden?

McCain?

No.

And --

No.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will stand up to the avaricious credit card corporations.

Who trap their consumers with --

29 percent interest rates.
$39 late fees.
Over limit fees.
Double cycle billing.
Disappearing grace periods.
$15 phone payment charges.

And every other possible way to rip you off.

To keep you in hock.

Forever and ever.

So, step up to the plate.

And drop $39 on Nader/Gonzalez now.

You'll be protesting the corporate Democrats' descent into credit card hell.

And supporting the only campaign that has the independence and guts to stand up to the industry and say -- enough!

Protest now.

Better late than never.

Onward to November.

Independent congressional candidate Cindy Sheehan being surveilled at Denver DNC convention?

Denver, Colorado--This is being reported primarily at OpEd News (OEN). Cindy Sheehan is claiming to have confronted an individual who claimed to be repairing the phone in her Hotel room. True? I doubt she's lying. Considering that the new FISA revisions recently passed make domestic surveillance of American citizens legal, it wouldn't be much of a surprise.

But would they--whoever "they" are--even need to come into her room to do this? Perhaps we have a case of bugging a room for information gathering purposes. If true, who was he working for? Mrs. Sheehan has been sending this account our in mass-e-mailings:
"As I walked toward my room, I noticed that the door was opened with the security bolt blocking the complete closing of the door. I knew immediately that I had not left the door open, and I double checked to make sure it was the right room because, as a frequent traveler, I have been known to forget my room number, but it was the right room.

I was upset at first thinking that housekeeping had made a mistake and left my room open and I was worried that something might be missing. So I walked into my room and bigger than life, there was a man standing by my desk holding the room phone with a screwdriver in his hand!

I immediately said; "What the hell are you doing? Are you putting a bug on my phone?" He looked like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and stammered out: "N--no, we are having problems with the phone." I told him to get out of my room because my phone was fine and I called the front desk and the person at the front desk stammered something out about "problems" with some of the phones.

This room was reserved soon after we got to Denver last night because the room we had was inadequate for 3 people. The room was reserved under my campaign manager's name with a CFC debit card. By the time we left for the march, it could have very well been ascertained that I was the one in this room, and the room we did reserve could be bugged, also. I am confident that that's what was happening when I walked in on the "maintenance" man"
(Cindy Sheehan Bugged in Denver," OEN, 08.25.2008)
Whatever was really happening, it raises some serious questions. There is the possibility that the GOP's hand is in this cookie jar, potentially to smear the Democratic Party as being behind it. Candidate Sheehan should file a police report at the very least.

Sheehan is currently running against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her own congressional district. Considering all of the political campaign office break-ins last summer, Sheehan's assertions could be correct and troubling.

Obama chooses longtime Sen. Joe Biden

Springfield, Illinois--It's great to be wrong about this choice! Senator Obama has made a much better decision than I thought he was capable of--he's no slouch, and an intelligent man. I do believe he's going to win thanks to this decision. While Biden voted to approve the use of force in Iraq, he was one of the first in the Senate who did so to admit it was a big mistake.

Biden isn't perfect--not by a long-shot--but he's better than most of the other possible choices that Obama could have made. Choosing Hillary Clinton would have been a bad idea of variety of reasons.

Namely, that the Clinton campaign was willing to do anything to defame candidate Obama to win. You cannot trust someone like that as a running mate under any conditions, and it's likely that Mrs. Clinton would have done a lot of back-stabbing.

Considering the new and expanded power of the office of the vice president under Dick Cheney, the damage could have been incredible to an Obama presidency, a potential death-blow (that we wouldn't know the details of for years). The wounds between both camps are hardly healed, but they might be with the voters.

For myself, the real tests will come in the first month of an Obama presidency. Some of the "fixing" is going to require going after the former members of the Bush II administration. I don't expect that there will be any significant or fundamental changes in their economy, their government (not really ours), the damage done to our Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and our illegal presence in the Middle East.

The GOP is not solely responsible for all of this. The Democratic Party and their incumbents in Congress own a great share of the blame for standing down on their responsibility to rein-in a lawless presidency--the most lawless in our history, bar none. These precedents cannot be allowed to stand and their reversal must be part-and-parcel of a genuinely progressive agenda.

Now, the GOP is making all kinds of predictable comments on the Biden nomination that aren't going to float with any but the most ignorant authoritarian, but there are similar threads in the speeches of Obama and Biden that are sometimes troubling. How much they invest in these themes will be borne-out in their policies. But: it's good to be wrong sometimes. Senator Joe Biden voted against the revision of FISA and the telecom immunity provisions. The best part of all of this will be watching Biden beat on the GOP's incumbents. They've earned it, and-then-some.

Lousy Country Star John Rich Misinterprets Johnny Cash's Life

"Somebody's got to walk the line in the country. They've got to walk it unapologetically. And I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."
--John Rich, speaking for Johnny Cash at a McCain campaign event, and doing it poorly.

Nashville, Tennessee
--To say that the boorish John Rich is a moron would be redundant. Apparently Mr. Rich is unaware of all the the Populist and "liberal" acts of the late country legend.

No, I'm not going to speak for Johnny Cash, because his life and the ideals he expressed are there for everyone to see, read, and hear. But let his works speak for themselves.

But in 1964, who else was releasing an album like "Bitter Tears-Songs of the American Indian"? On that LP, Cash sings "Custer ," a flat-out celebration of the destruction of the yellow-haired murderer of old men, women, and children, and 200 other cutthroats. Who was singing songs like this then? Nobody, not even Bob Dylan or Phil Ochs, and Cash got an earful over it from a very different--but similar--racist America.

And it didn't end there: as we all know, he played many shows in our inhuman prison system, out of empathy and an expressed belief that sometimes the men housed in those cells are merely victims of the times and blind justice.

If you know anything about Johnny Cash at all--something the McCain campaign and Rich are hoping you don't--it's that he and his first wife were harassed by the KKK because they thought she might be of mixed-race. Cash told them to kiss his ass, and that he was the biggest mongrel there was. He threw-in his lot with the dispossessed, the victims of American wrong-headedness and greed (his own failings aside).

What would he say to Rich today? We don't know, but daughter Roseanne's statements this week against those who would invoke Johnny's name and memory for their own agendas rings true, and John Rich should be ashamed...for the lousy, inane music he creates. Most genuine country music died in the 1970s. Would he tell people to vote for John McCain? It's doubtful. How dare you, Mr. Rich, you black liar. The exploitation of the dead continues...

Obama's Veep Pick: Does it Really Matter?

The Campaign Trail of Tears
--Nah. I'm saying it's either going to be the arch-conservative milquetoast Evan Bayh from my own state of Indiana, or the virtual unknown from Texas, Representative Chet Edwards. Soooo, he didn't even think once about--erm--tapping Hillary (who would? Not Bill.) as vice president. That was a smart move, because there would have been no logical reason to think she wouldn't have been stabbing a President Obama in the back his entire tenure in office. We'll see, and probably in less than a couple hours.

Poscript, 10:00 PM: An incredible wait, so I went out to see the new Kiefer Sutherland film "Mirrors," which is really great! Of course, we all know the wait is political theater at its best, but Obama's smarter than his ossified, washed-up jock rival. My money's on Bayh, why break a run of disappointments? Caroline Kennedy would be a great one, so it's unlikely. Sigh. Time to watch William Klein's "Mr. Freedom"! Notice how nobody cares who McCain picks as his running-mate, yet even the GOP is riveted over who Obama will choose? I have.

Palfrey Defense emails: Late-December, 2007

Ed.
--These are more missives from the Palfrey defense, between Jeane, myself, and my co-researcher Monique Rawlings. I asked Palfrey whether certain things she conveyed to us could be published. Rawlings jumped on it--as she did on another occasion on another topic--for reasons I still don't entirely understand.

She was stating the obvious, and there was no "leak" by me. I had been looking for clarification only. In my opinion, Rawlings has an overstated sense of importance, like many I've encountered in this whole saga. In case you didn't notice, Palfrey was jumping from one theory to another as to the genesis of her case. She would shift-gears and go from theory-to-theory, which I assume was desperation on her part.

She fostered an atmosphere of paranoia and conspiricism, though the speculations were coming from numerous directions, myself included. Other than standardized-fonts and my added comments, these are unedited and pasted directly from the original e-mails. This is primary historical material, enjoy it if you can. I can't, but I did what I could to help. Looking back, it could never have been enough. Lost causes are for gentlemen.

Subject: RE: Anderson

Bil I just emailed my other contact and told him that he is the first outlet to have the Anderson tip; however, I informed him that I would be passing along the same information to another, on Friday. Please inform Jason of Andersons former patronage. The connection of Anderson, to the phone records is very simple he is in them, complete with social security number. Remember, this is the Verizon Wireless list. The numbers here are all cell numbers. And lets face it. There would be no reason in the world why I would have the private cell number of a high-level Treasury Department official; especially, in my geographically disenfranchised existence in California, unless Anderson gave it to me in the course of my escort business dealings. He is a sure bet, as are the others. Bottom line - if my first guy doesnt do it, then Jason has a fantastic story, tomorrow (today). Jeane

Matt Anderson goes to the heart of the selective prosecution case; even more so than the average client. Incredibly, this man is part and parcel of the very institution, which has seized and frozen my lifes savings, for the past 15 months. More unbelievably, he is a very senior official, who acts in the capacity of Treasurys mouthpiece. He spins and justifies their junk on a daily basis. How absolutely mind-boggling it is for him to be found in the records. It is almost as delicious as Tobias and his ban regarding third world countries and prostitution. Consequently, it is imperative something like this gets a big boost at the onset. I cannot afford for it to get lost in cyberspace. [Ed.--I'm wondering how she felt any of this would do anything but taint a jury, but Anderson was a "false positive" that was subsequently dropped anyway, along with counsel at that time, Montgomery Blair Sibley.] -Jeane

Jeane:

I tried to call Jason [Leopold] tonight. I left him a message on his voicemail. I just told him that I have a tip for him regarding your case. I told him that I will email him. I didn't leave the info on voicemail to him without talking to him live over the phone. I know he will ask the connection of Anderson to the phone records. I will dig into imfo om Anderson. Knowing Jason, he will email me or call me. This is good to tip Jason as well as your other source. [Ed.--...and would benefit yourself and Jason.] This will spread like wildflower. [Ed.--That would be "wildfire."]

Matt:

We are part of the legal team. So certain aspects of this case can't be leaked to blogsites first. Only the trustworthy media such as Truthout and others that Jeane and Blair wish to leak should get first dibbs. I was the first person that Jason had allowed to see his video interviews of Joe Wilson and four fired USAs before that was released.

Bil [Monique Rawlings]

Matt… just gotta love it! -Jeane PS if Bil’s suggestion that I was being used as the “fall gal” in the hope, Representative Slaughter’s persistent questioning would stop; thus driving attention away from the likely panorama of corruption the bad actors surely must have been trying to keep hidden – why then would they assume such a strategy would work? Unless of course, they thought I quickly would capitulate and not fight as I have. Nonetheless, I don’t understand why the ‘gift’ (Pamela Martin’s services) could be seen by Slaughter, as some sort of answer to her investigation into the shenanigans of K Street and the CIA and God only knows who else at this point. After all, I/we were not in cohots with Wilkes & Company. I was never part of any sort of influence peddling conspiracy. I absolutely had no knowledge whatsoever, of such happenings. And frankly, I suspect neither did any of the women in my employ. Was it perhaps proferred – by ??? - that I indeed was part of the conspiracy? -Jeane

Dear Jeane and Bil:

You're going to love this. I normally do just some random fishing and got a twinge to check the recently conveyed Verizon recs--found a man who's in DHS: Merrick Krause, looks like he's in "National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center" (NISAC). Here's a link to a document, but there are a few things that come up on a google search. http://www.sandia.gov/nisac/docs/Portal_factsheet.pdf He's involved in infrastructure protection. He's a retired USAF Colonel.

kind regards, Matt Janovic

[Ed.--Also a false positive, but why did Verizon provide a list containing the "uninvolved"? What they gave the defense was a messy conglomeration of information that had to be sifted-through. We even found a war on terror internee. Did it fulfill the subpoena? It shouldn't have. We were given no substantial directions--just "find big names." I'd say this should lay to rest the notion that Palfrey consciously "had more names," but it won't.]
