Was the Boston Marathon Bombing Done Over a Sleight?

Even in the earliest reports, we've been seeing that the Tsarnaev family was dysfunctional. Zubeidat Tsarnaev, the mother of the bombing suspects, was busted for shoplifting at a Lord & Taylor fashion shop. Now we're finding out that she was on the same terror watch list as her oldest son. 

Another of their store locations was on Boston's Bolyton Street, where the bombings took place, and where video captures of her two sons were taken moments before and after the blast. With the evidence is mounting against the deceased suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother Dzokhar, and with some arrows pointing at the mother, investigators in Dagestan speaking with associates of hers, I wouldn't be too surprised if she was arrested soon.

We might just find out that there was no sound ideological or religious justification (you think?) behind the bombing at all. What it could have been was retribution directed at Lord & Taylor and Boston in general for charging their mother with shoplifting. If she was guilty, and they were of what they're alleged to have done, what you have is nothing more than a pack of criminals and nothing close to terrorists. All of Zubeidat's crazy conspiracy theories about what might have occurred conveniently point away from her sons in the face of almost irrefutable physical and photographic evidence, as well as eyewitness testimony from the carjacking victim they kidnapped and confessed to. Her theories, by obvious implication, then, point away from her. 

The uncle on the father's side of the family might know a lot more about this woman than he's stated so far, and what they were capable of, what he might have thought they were headed towards. But who could predict something so crazy? I'm also betting that the enigmatic "Misha" is more of a red-herring thrown out there by the parents.

This has nothing to do with Islam.

Some more observations on conspiracy buffs and the Boogeyman...

They--the ubiquitous "they"--see them everywhere, and they know the score, according to...well, to them. Above all others, they understand the "true" machinations of our civilization, never mind those silly academics-they're part of the conspiracy too if they don't agree with the conspiracy buffs. Which conspiracy theory? Take your pick. Isn't it really about crime, under the color of law and authority? Isn't that something you could actually try in a court of law, before a jury? Wouldn't going after politicians who are criminals by treating them as such work better? No, it's a conspiracy, because that's easier for me to unthink about.

The truth? Ultimate truth is unknowable, so the conspiracy gurus like the Alex Joneses and Alex Constantines of the world must be elves, pixies, faeries, and the Oracle at Delphi, atop mount Parnassus, telling everyone what they already know: that conspiracy buffs are full of shit, possibly nuts in many cases, and need to get a life and learn to be responsible citizens who really watchdog their government. Constantine claims that he once did. He might return to his good work, but like Alex Jones, it takes him all morning to get his coffee back from the toxicology lab. No, the ones that really get away with murder in our society are the business & finance sectors. But most of the cranks love them, contrary claims aside, because those CEOs believe most of the same things that the dopes do: the Libertarian credo of the lawless Frontier maverick (long dead in the real world, meaning it's alive-and-well on Wall Street and in boardrooms) who's entitled to do whatever he wants without any repercussions. That's not freedom for everyone else, it's negative freedom, negative "Liberty."

There are legitimate researchers, journalists, and historians out there who are doing diligent and thoughtful work that at least eventually gets some kind of a "peer review" (we won't dwell on the nano-thermite flap regarding the rickety WTC-7), and they should be thanked. Naming them here would be unfair, and anyone familiar with academic intelligence history and credible historiographical research (private and academic) into our political history knows wildly speculative crap when they see it. Many in the public today do not, and I lay the blame at the feet of educators and the individual. The mainstream media is also sorely to blame. Too many members of the public are simply not credible or rational thinkers, generally, and more standardized requirements for logic training would go a long way in ameliorating this problem. Americans don't stand on the international stage as especially rational thinkers, hardly. Many Americans have literally never written a thesis in their entire lives if they even know what it means.

Our domestic policies are a great illustration of this: on the one hand, many Americans don't trust their government (thanks partly to scandals like Watergate and Iran-Contra, but perpetuated by anti-government cranks who call themselves "conspiracy researchers," etc.), yet expect to receive social services from it. The prevalence of the myth of "the disappeared" gives this attitude an especially weird quality when one considers that many Americans don't want to pay taxes, but again, expect social services like Social Security checks, roads, bridges, power plants, drinkable water, and all of the things social infrastructure can bring. Still, according to some on the fringe, the government is totalitarian and "evil." That's a conservative argument, though not a traditional one. There are no real conservatives, but that's a theme for another time.

The fact is that even with all of the corruption, the bribing lobbyists, crony appointments, kiss-ass politicians, a mostly comatose and wrong-headed public, obviously unconstitutional legislation, absurd Supreme Court rulings, and the resultant scandals and cock-ups, they still have to deliver these social services because the social contract has to be served. Regardless of what anyone says, we're still a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, no matter how impaired these things might be at present. Classical liberal theory on servicing the social contract through the redistribution of wealth is a warning, not a threat, that if you don't manage your society wisely, you will reap chaos. If it is not, you can expect very serious drama indeed. What the conspiracy buffs and nuts are saying is that the social contract has been entirely forfeited, and that's not true by any stretch, especially compared to many other nations around the world where it's patently obvious that that's the case. However, were many of them to have it their way, yes, a cohesive society we can be proud of would be almost entirely null-and-void.

Without even understanding what the social contract is, conspiracy nuts say that we're already at the critical mass, that the government isn't delivering--or even that it should at all. Most of these people don't believe in traditional Western democracy nor the ideals of the French Revolution, meaning Liberty, Fraternity, and Equality. They're barbarians. They don't really believe in our most cherished American ideals of Liberty and democracy. What they believe in is selling you a t-shirt or a poorly researched and produced DVD so that they can turn a profit off of social discontent and sell you the anti-government line. Government is only as good as the people of a nation, and in that sense, it's not complicated. You must stay engaged. You must watch the watchers as a lifetime responsibility. If you want government services--rich, poor, or even middle-class--you must expect to pay for them, but you should also pay your fair share. When the top 500 corporations are often paying significantly less than a working-class individual, something's very wrong with the body politic.

But the conspiracy nuts--in-the-main--don't get this...or much else.

On blowing your own balls off to spite your heart...

This has been irking me for a very long time: felons, in most states in America, don't ever get to vote again, YET we're constantly electing them into public office. Not only is it wrong to keep people who have paid their debt to society from ever voting again--especially considering that having been incarcerated, they've seen the real face of this nation--it's also anti-democratic and unjust. It doesn't fix anything.

I have a theory, and I'm not alone: for the most part, we're still living in Massachusetts Bay colony. We're still an almost hopelessly puritanical nation and culture, and that means there can never be enough punishment. Even with wave-after-wave of immigration, and we're talking in the tens-of-millions of people of just about every culture, it persists. How is that? Why is that?

I think there's a simple and complicated explanation. While Americans like to think that there's always going to be another "new wave" of wealth in this nation, I think old money and (most importantly) aristocratic privilege still rules this country and will for the foreseeable future. The image of the noose-wielding puritan patriarch haunts the social landscape of America where Old Testament punishment rejects even the New Testament message of forgiveness. Forget about the ideals of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution, that blew past a lot of people in this country, and especially the quasi-aristocratic wackos who rule over us. The fact is, they hate the everyman and woman and want to make the rest of us suffer, mostly for their own sins.

I don't claim to know what the solution to this is except to never stop fighting it in every way humanly possible. We should insist on everyone having the right to vote, frankly, and even for at least those who have served their sentences in the inhuman dungeons of America where even privatized slavery is making its return with the ever-encroaching war on drugs. The laws regarding prostitution made the outlines of this puritanical hypocrisy patently clear to me in the DC Madam case with a two women dead, and the men, the "Johns" (especially the rich ones), merely walking away from it, and without a scratch. My dislike for these rich men will be with me for the rest of our respective lives. Never mind the "average Joe" ones, they didn't really deserve the attention some of them got.

It's the self-appointed patriarchs that I will always take issue with...

WWW--This is pretty funny. These clowns kept coming around during the DC Madam scandal all the time, now they seem to have noticed the WM3 case for the first time. Check the link they read or bookmarked, I think I'm onto something with the fact that Terry Hobbs and Mark Byers (fathers of the murdered children dumped at what was Robin Hood Hills at the time in the early 1990s).

My take is that the kids were likely slaughtered because their parents were drug-addicts who turned informants, snitched on the wrong crowd, and the resulting murders became inevitable. There is more than smoke hovering around this thesis. Why the DOJ is reading it after having a few years is a matter of priority and competence. The war on drugs creates secondary crimes that are far more destructive than the original ones they're going after. Pathetic.

CREW files a prostitution complaint against Louisiana Sen. David Vitter

Louisiana--Do I think this is going to go anywhere? Probably not, but I assume the intended result is to remind Louisiana voters he's a piece-of-shit and a liar who can't keep his dick in his pants until the 2010 elections.

What's interesting is that they're going for Davey's law license as well as punitive measures for--I don't know, nothing much--breaking the law on several occasions when he went to see prostitutes, and probably in more than one state. The FBI probably caught him in some wiretaps down in the big NO, frequenting the Canal Street Madam's brothel, but that's a story for another time.

The director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) said it is time for Vitter to step up to the plate and answer for accusations stemming from the "D.C. Madam Scandal." In 2007, Vitter's name appeared on the client list of D.C. Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey. According to CREW, Vitter's law license should be revoked for allegedly violating the state's rules of professional conduct for lawyers.
"Since that's a crime and Louisiana rules provide that committing any crime is a subject matter appropriate for discipline, we thought it was time for the Louisiana bar to take a look at Mr. Vitter's conduct," said Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW. ("Prostitution complaint filed against Vitter," WAFB Channel 9, Baton Rouge, 09.29/30.2009)

This is actually impressive, going for his law license. It could hamper his ability to make a living after his sordid and unfortunate time in public office. Louisiana should be ashamed, but then, so should Indiana with Dan Burton and his own issues with illicit sex, possibly treason.
But never underestimate the greed, shallowness, and stupidity of Louisianans, they could just as easily reelect him. Vitter's office issued a pathetic statement in response to CREW's move that utilizes that old tactic that "when the truth isn't on your side, you attack the credibility of the messenger." This week, Vitter and his cronies are taking this adage to heart and acting on it. Never mind the bullshit about Vitter wearing diapers--Jeane never confirmed this, and she probably wouldn't have known anyway, she was more concerned about making money.
The real issue is: should the rich and their employees like Vitter be above the law? For the rich, rednecks and the religiously insane, the answer is an unqualified "yes." We might just have that second American Civil War yet. You contributed to driving a disturbed woman to her death. How does that feel Senator Vitter? Do you know how weird and depraved that is and how it looks? To say that you're a pathetic asshole would be an understatement.

WHEN: why doesn't the right call Bernie Sanders a socialist?

Goddamned if I ever thought I'd miss William F. Buckley Jr., but I do. Do they even know what a socialist is?

Buckley did, and even though he himself was prone to red-baiting and calling people who weren't communists communists, and all the other permutations, he tended to have a higher accuracy count. No, whatever isn't socialist is socialist to the "New Right," throwing their tantrums and having their own 1960s. Luckily, it's going to end about the same way for them: a dystopian move towards hard drugs (already there!), cults (ditto), and even disco (not quite there yet). This is more a matter of profound ignorance about virtually everything.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is an acknowledged philosophical socialist, like myself. But how often has anyone called him that? Name that person, I defy you. Best of luck!

Newsflash: Indiana Voter I.D. law struck down

Indianapolis, Indiana--In what's going to be a blow to the right and the GOP, Indiana's voter I.D. law (P.L. 109-2005) requiring registered voters to produce a photo identification at polling places, while at the same time not requiring similar standards for mail-in votes, has been reversed unanimously as violating Indiana's State Constitution by a three member Court of Appeals of Indiana, it has been struck for now. Apparently Mitch Daniels and his Secretary of State have reading comprehension problems.

The appeals court found that the first ruling by the trial court upholding the law was in-error on the judge's part.

In-person voters are required to show a photo identification to prove who they are, but there are no requirements for an affidavit from mail-in voters. The ruling cited "inconsistent and partial treatment favoring absentee voters who choose to mail their votes" as the primary reason for its decision.Backers of the law said it curbs voter fraud. Those against the law contend that it keeps poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. ("Court Throws Out Indiana Voter ID Law," Fwix.com, 09.17.2009)

Yes, Governor Daniels, someone who would stand to benefit from the poor, elderly, and minority voters being disenfranchised in elections has a major problem with the appeals court ruling and has called it "preposterous." I'm sure he knows that most of Indiana's homeless are veterans, the majority of them having served in the Vietnam war. Support our troops, pig, scarface. To disenfranchise minority voters is the real golden goose.

If anything, the bill had the subtext of being an "anti-nigger" bill and one decidedly against the poor and the vulnerable. But that's what a wolf does--goes for the stragglers, the weakest. Interestingly, the ruling cites an incident that occurred here in St. Joseph County:

...Further, the League alleged that in Marion County alone in the 2007 municipal election, 32 persons who submitted provisional ballots never produced a qualified form of identification and therefore their votes were not counted, despite the fact that “[m]ost of those voters had voted for several years at the same location.” (Appellant‟s App. p. 6). Additionally, the League alleged that in St. Joseph County, 12 nuns were not permitted “to cast a regular or provisional ballot” because they did not have the required form of identification. (Appellant‟s App. p. 6). In Count II, the League contended that the Voter I.D. Law conferred a privilege upon voters voting by mail-in absentee ballot because those voters did not have to comply with the identification requirements. (No. 49A02-0901-CV-40)

The nuns were eventually allowed to vote to put out the PR fire. Yes, they're going to appeal this ruling to the Indiana State Supreme Court, but I wouldn't be surprised if their own form of "judicial activism" fails.

Will that dissuade them? Nothing dissuades their ilk and their brand of anti-Americanism. After all, if you ask anyone, the majority of African Americans don't vote Republican and never will. However, right now, the GOP is the party of racism, the party of the extremist fifth columnist and theocratic and plutocratic fascism. Thank the League of Women Voters of Indiana and Indianapolis for this victory, let's hope it holds. To be sure, they're going to keep on fighting.

The question I have is: what business does a standing governor of a state have in leading the charge for an appeal to an appeal that so clearly violates the state constitution? At best, all they can attempt to do is to illustrate that there was improper procedure in the judicial process, the decision, and that it was decided incorrectly. That would be a technicality that won't even address the actual basis of the decision itself, but Daniels and the moronic Indiana GOP are crying like Baby Huey, so get the brat a pacifier, and quick. Who's going to file the appeal to the appeal? Whoever that is should be looked at very, very carefully, and that would be Daniels and company. Did I mention that Daniels has no charisma and a scar on his left-cheek and served as an economics adviser to George W. Bush in his first term? That advice must have been gangbusters, things are great in Indiana. He must have gotten that scar during his time as a collections man for organized crime, like Don King.

Look at most of the photos, he favors his right side...but we knew this. Crook. At least the consortium that bought the toll road he sold lost their asses over Madoff. What a C.R.E.E.P.

The C Street House: Was GOP Senator David Vitter ever an attendee?

Washington D.C.--The question should be asked: did Louisiana Senator David Vitter, serial-adulterer and whoremonger attend any "prayer" and counseling meetings at the now-notorious C Street House?

Considering the clowns who have already been unmasked, such as South Carolina's Republican Governor Mark Sanford, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), and their inability to be men and simply resign, it would hardly be surprising. The C Street House hasn't been a total unknown within the beltway, but until the release of "The Family," by Harper's Jeff Sharlett, it was to the general public. Where might Vitter fit into all of this?

Vitter's lack of any real sense of shame or responsibility and his avoidance of accountability ring familiar.

The C Street House itself is allegedly there to "counsel" predominantly Republican politicians about misbehavior and general spiritual matters holding prayer groups, Bible studies, but something more akin to damage control for politicians within their fold. One has to wonder if blackmail is part of the equation. Ostensibly, then, the claim is that the people running the C Street House are attempting to hold these office-holders accountable, which is laughable considering its secrecy.

Yet, perhaps they are in their own minds to further their agendas.

Top Democratic leaders have also had involvement with the generally secret (to the public) prayer ministry, "The Family," who is alleged to run but not own the C Street House. Y.W.A.M. appear to be the owners, but it's still unclear exactly who owns the building.

The group--"Youth With a Mission of Washington D.C." and "The Family"--that owns the C Street House where GOP politicians apparently conspire to hide their sexual and criminal behaviors from everyone has an agenda: theocratic control of the entire world, calling it a "Seven Mountains Mandate," sounding far too much like a reference to the "Seven Hills of Rome," another pagan theocracy populated by degenerate men who avoided accountability at every turn.

What are the "seven mountains" these religious extremists want to conquer? A recently unearthed video shows that they want to control the world from America through infiltration of: business (seen as a key "mountain" to surmount/climb), education, family-units (good luck!), arts and entertainment, government, media, and religion. Pretty nutty, huh? I thought we were fighting religious extremism in the war on terror, yet here we have a homegrown subculture of them within our political and economic system. Who would have thought? Anyone with a pulse.

Funny, but this has all been done before, right? Correct: the Vatican and National Socialism. How's that working out for them today? Seven mountains. Why seven? It's a strange numerological fixation...

When you feel that you're one of God's chosen ones, you feel that you're beyond good and evil. This is the attitude of aristocrats, the main reason for the secrecy and the anti-democratic attitudes going in-and-out of the charnel house on C Street. Vitter is surely part of this subculture, and this writer predicts that he's going to be outed as a member, an associate at-minimum.


Postscript: I should add that in Why Just Her, Montgomery Blair Sibley makes the claim that Senator Vitter and his attorneys at the time threatened the DC Madam with attorney fees (Vitter's, she would have to pay them according to them) around February 25th, 2008. Three days later, Jeane wrote journalist Jason Leopold that, "The bastards aren't taking me alive," and forwarded it to me and my co-researcher. Did Vitter's legal threats push Palfrey to suicide? In my humble opinion, he contributed to it and should be made to pay.

Well, at least something along those lines. Hey, it sold books for decades, what with dumbells speculating for dumbells what had happened to the Prince Alexander and Princess Anastasia. Armies of crazy old Slavic ladies claimed that they too were Anastasia, and even a few faceless cranks claimed they were Alexander. All of it was a lie, a body of completely worthless literature.

Nobody should have cared. The only thing that matters now is what really happened, and now we know: all of the Romanovs were killed by the Ural Soviet under orders of Lenin and the Central Committee in the month of July, 1918.

Of course they were going to slaughter all of them. That was the M.O. of the Bolsheviks, beginning with the deposed Tsar's family. Like the "Night of Long Knives" for the Nazis, this was what kicked-off the slaughter that was to come, the crossing of a threshold. Nothing could be the same after the Ural Soviet's deed, under orders from the Central Committee under V.I. Lenin.

Lenin directly ordered the murders of the Romanovs, and it was hidden until around the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. One of the first publications to note Lenin's orders (in memo form) was in Lenin: A New Biography (1994, first published in Russia years earlier) a book by the late Major General Dmitri Volkogonov that details most of the known machinations at the time it was written. Volkogonov had unparalleled access to the Party archives during the last years of the Cold War and was finally able to release his discoveries during Glasnost and the final fall of the Soviet regime.

WWW--The Nation has reprinted this article when--I know it's hard to imagine--there was an era of unprecedented corruption under Republican rule that led to an economic crisis. If you changed the names, you would think it was written this week.

But we are taking leave not merely of a single Administration. For twelve years the Republican Party has been in power. During ten of those years it controlled the executive and legislative branches of the government. When, a few years hence, an attempt is made to minimize the disaster of this last quadrennium, and to point to a preceding eight year period of material development and growth, let it be noted that in a purely material sense the American people are much worse off today than they were twelve years ago. Far more than was gained has been swept away. Savings have been dissipated, lives have been blasted, families disintegrated. Misery and insecurity exist to a degree unprecedented in our national life. And spiritually the American people have been debauched by the materialism which made dollar-chasing the accepted way of life and accumulation of riches the goal of earthly existence.

Sound familiar? If it doesn't, you might check to see if you have a pulse. Farewell to the Republicans and everyone like them, and may God damn those who still support them and their agenda.

Five days left in the eight year illegal occupation of the White House

Washington D.C.--And so, it's ending, and not with a whimper (except from Georgie boy). President-elect Barack Obama is going to do his darndest not to prosecute these bastards, trying to make us think that Congress can't do likewise. It's all just bait-and-switch, the oldest game there is aside from the shell game.

Demand, demand, demand the appointment of a Special Prosecutor armed with subpoena power and the immense resources that it's going to take to unravel the mess left by yet another criminally-inept Republican presidential administration and era.

This will happen again otherwise--if we're even able to emerge from this man-made economic crisis intact. Indeed, we all own our little part of this mess, but George W. Bush and his administration and a Republican Congress created the lion's share of the corporate crime wave we've been living under since 2000. Truth be known, it's been much longer in duration, stretching-back decades. That's how big this is, it's literally the end of an era and possibly of an order.

My hunch is that Obama and the rest of them in Washington are going to try to do things as they've always done, attempting to save a rotten barrel. When that doesn't work, they're going to keep fighting the reality that market capitalism is really and truly over, waste valuable time they could be finding constructive solutions, and drive us further down into a mess that's going to dwarf the Great Depression. Congress will also lend-a-hand in creating this catastrophe.

But there's a alternative: mount a massive and aggressive prosecution on the soon-to-be former Bush II administration's most obvious offenders. There must also be the formation of prosecution units to take-on Wall Street offenders, and there must be prosecutions, there must be accountability. No accountability means no renewal of faith in the financial and political system, and the evidence criminality will be found where it ran riot in government under the Republicans and in the private sector.

But we have to quit fooling ourselves. It's also going to be found in the ranks of Congress itself, the reason why there's no will to prosecute the outgoing Bush II administration. They were complicit with them, and they compromised themselves.

If President-elect Obama is the political hack that I suspect he is, he's in as much trouble as Alberto Gonzales already, which is saying a lot considering the fact that no law firm in North America will hire the disgraced former Attorney General. We don't need any repeats from the last eight years, America cannot survive it and remain America. Hope is great, but false hope is just cynicism by another name.

George W. Bush's final press conference as president

Washington D.C.--What did you expect? It was always going to be pathetic. George W. Bush has always been the kind of personality who wanted to be liked. Based on this fact, it was strange to put someone in there to use-up all of his political capital and the public's goodwill for the purposes of making the few richer, and he's feeling the heat like never before.

He should be after being the one who did as much deregulation of the economy as he humanly (and illegally) could. George W. Bush has presided over what can only be called the largest corporate crime wave in American history, the list is almost endless. What's more, it probably has no other human precedent just based on its own sheer scale. But he had help, and it was bipartisan: Congress.

That he's "feeling the love" these days is good, and President-elect Obama is also being confronted to create a special prosecution to investigate the crimes of the Bush II administration from many quarters that cross the artificial boundaries between "left" and "right." Welcome to the electronic frontier, Mr. President-elect, we're watching. The honeymoon has already ended, and it's time to deliver, and fast. Yes, the economy needs top priority, but we're going to have to be insistent on a special prosecutor to investigate the crimes of the Bush II administration. That's why he was throwing his little fit today--he's got that hunted look in his eyes again, and it's something to treasure for the rest of our lives.

The majority of Americans want justice and accountability from this outgoing administration and aren't going to accept Obama's mealy-mouthisms of "putting the past behind us."

As the president blurted today: "Pathetic." Yes, that sums-up his tragic time holding office in the White House. It also sums-up the GOP and those loyal to her. Fun's over GOP, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. You and your cronies had a weird sense of victimhood, because it was fictional and based on your queer sense of entitlement to do whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted to. Game over.

If the Republican Party doesn't change with the tenor of this new era, they're done for. I have no problem with this, but then it's going to be time to dismantle the Democratic Party.

To all members of the Bush II administration, both former and present: We'll be watching you and pursuing you in the world's courts--all the co-conspirators under George W. Bush's watch--for the rest of your natural lives if necessary. Think about that the next time you purchase an airline ticket to another country, or when you enter specific counties, New England towns, and a growing number of cities within the territorial United States.

There are already warrants for your arrests patiently waiting to be served in many of these places. Now, I understand that your former-and-disgraced Attorney General Alberto Gonzales cannot find a job with any law firm. Welcome to reality, because when large law firms do this, it's because they know the long arm of the law is coming, soon. Time to feel the love. What a terrible president, the worst that I'll probably ever live to see, and I can remember Nixon. Both Republicans, both embarrassing, neither were men, but stupid people have to vote too. Sometimes, they steal elections and manage to fight their way into office. Bye-bye, asshole!

Accused Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich loses Homeland Security Clearance--what other accused politicians have?

Washington D.C.--There's no indication that former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens lost his security clearance during the legal proceedings in his own case, so why the move on Blagojevich's? To hurt him, to make him appear "bad," to assassinate his character. Yes, yes, one was a senator, the other a governor--except that Stevens was under investigation for a very long time as Blagojevich has been (years), and there was every indication that he was guilty, just like the Governor of Illinois.

Great, they have a lot in common...except in how they're being treated. At least Ted Stevens is going to have a hard time practicing law in Alaska, but does it matter? He's in his eighties. Stevens got the kid-glove treatment for far longer. Yes, there have been "ongoing investigations" into Blagojevich for years, which is not simply odd but smells of someone gunning for someone.

On Stevens's last day in the Senate, he was given a standing ovation. It wasn't reassuring that anything was about to change in Congress anytime soon. This is an individual--not a man--who was convicted of seven felonies by a jury of his peers. You read that right if you didn't somehow know it already: seven felony convictions. Stevens was also on committees and subcommittees that dealt directly with the DHS.

There's no indication from the record that he was ever stripped of any of his security clearances at any point until it was clear he was convicted and leaving office.

That's not the case with Blagojevich, and yet, the Bush II administration must be behind some of it--they still have sixteen days left in office, not the Obama team. Surely, they requested it--someone did--and it's safe to assume that it was for political reasons that cross party lines into the realms of class loyalty and preserving a rotten barrel. By all appearances, Ted Stevens retained his DHS security clearance (and his general security clearance as a sitting representative) until he was indicted in July 2008. Blagojevich hasn't even been indicted yet, but the calls to move quickly in unseating him stand in stark contrast with the treatment of other politicians accused of criminal behavior.

That's a matter of procedure at that point, but it should have been stripped from Stevens much earlier than it was, but Republicans can do anything they want.

Somehow, a man with seven felony convictions deserves a standing ovation before the Senate of the United States, while a standing governor of Illinois deserves no presumption of innocence until proven guilty, including the removal of said clearance, and so on. If that's not a contemptible attitude for due process to serve political ends, then nothing is. Republican senators did their best to block stripping Stevens from holding leadership roles on committees for exactly one year after the FBI raided his home. His indictment forced their hand.

Governor Blagojevich hasn't even technically been indicted yet and U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald is asking for "more time" to shore-up one. Curious, that--all of it. Perhaps we'll all be singing "The Wreck of the Patrick Fitzgerald" before long.

Man throws shoe at outgoing President George W. Bush at Iraq press conference

--Muntadar al-Zedei, displaying more courage than the entire American public since the 2000 inauguration.

Baghdad, Iraq--Where was the Secret Service? Guarding the real president, Barack Obama back in the states.

Iraqi journalist Muntadar al-Zeidi did what no American has had the moral courage to do since the 2000 inauguration when the public threw ice-balls, snowballs, and rocks at the then president-elect: throw things at George W. Bush out of a well-earned disrespect. The Al-Baghdadia television correspondent did what most of us have wanted to all along (if not much more), this time not throwing something at a television screen but the actual source of irritation.

Disappointingly, he almost connected, and didn't, but it sums-up the president's relationship with Iraq and the world. This must be some kind of hell for a man who has always prided himself on being liked.

Unfortunately, the president's intelligence on the shoe size and its trajectory were a little off. But his experience in baseball and his indefatigable ignorance saved the day--he ducked the spitball. Hey, they dragged Al-Zeidi away by force (authorized by Congress in 2002), so he's making sure everyone knows he's still "fearless leader," our great Generallisimo, until January 20th, 2009. Still, where's the blame for the CIA in this one? That leads us to...

Statistically, a mere sect (located somewhere in West Virginia-by-way-of Idaho), a cult, still supports the war in Iraq in the United States. They're overeager believers with a pinch of fear, paranoia, and desperation. That's because something should happen to people like them.

Throwing the full weight of the law on top of Bush would be more appropriate, or simply enforcing it, but that's inconvenient and could be messy.

As Bush stated so ineloquently but accurately, "So what if the guy threw a shoe at me?" Right, so what? He knows that he's done enough to warrant far worse and that at minimum he should be before the Hague, not a press conference in Baghdad for a bye-bye visitation with his victim, Iraq. From 2003 until now we went from Iraqis throwing shoes at toppled statues of a dictator, to an Iraqi throwing his shoes at the real deal, a strange kind of progress, but progress nonetheless.

Now Al-Zeidi's action is there for the ages, making him as immortal as Gavrilo Princip taking aim at the Archduke...and missing, but trying again until he hit his target. George W. Bush is going to have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life, and eventually, the bill will come due. His nail-biting anticipation will be punishment enough, but these precedents must be rolled back.

Future generations will look at us as we look at past ones: "How did they put up with it? Why didn't they do something more? What were they waiting for?" Exactly. What were we waiting for all this time? The cavalry, of course, and it never came because life isn't a movie.

The lowest insult throughout the Middle East is to call someone a "dog," they're fighting words, and Al-Zeidi was echoing what nearly every single Iraqi feels. They will never give up, and they will never stop fighting to remove America or any foreign power from the region.

We must now hold them to honor their words of accountability.

The Bush administration has refused to investigate its own crimes and

President Bush may issue blanket pardons before he leaves, indeed we

fully expect him to even try to pardon himself. But that is all the

more reason why we must keep as much heat as possible on the

potential for real post inauguration prosecutions. No pardon could

possibly be broad enough to exonerate the entire litany of the crimes

of the outgoing White House without itself raising serious

constitutional questions.

responsible to demonstrate that we are truly a Nation of Laws and no

WWW--I'm underwhelmed, except that it's the exact same length of time America has been in a coma. It cost a minimum of half-a-million to maintain her body every year. That's a waste of money, a total waste that could have helped the living. By all accounts, she was dead before the coma...just ask Klaus. I hear he's a real hoot at a party, a great conversationalist with an aristocratic sense of humor.

O.J. Simpson's memorabilia was his and yet not his...

WWW--This trial has been very interesting to me for a number of reasons. My brother has worked for over a decade in advertising and had the misfortune of meeting a lot of Northern Indiana businessmen over the years (hint: car dealers think "Top Gun" is the "greatest film ever made"--wrong again).

As one might vividly imagine, most of them are antisocial turds with less personality than a houseplant, but a few of them actually wanted to chum it up with "the help," so my brother had to oblige their overinflated egos.

One of these clowns was a very big O.J. fan. He took my brother down into the basement den of his very expensive and poorly-designed-and-built clapboard where there was a wall literally covered with sports memorabilia.

And there it was, it even had its own display-nook: O.J.'s 1968 Heisman trophy.

"He lets me keep it for him, and I give him money every once in a while," he said (I'm paraphrasing now, isn't it thrilling?). This was within the last eight years. Yeah, it's crazy, but these things just have a way of coming to me and not the reverse, a kind of "Jungian" latticework of coincidence that's plagued my life from its inception.

What is there to gather from this? That O.J. has such an enormous ego that in his mind he wasn't "selling" anything, but "allowing" fans to "rent" his memorabilia in return for an audience with him, to be on his "good" side. I won't even go into what it must have been like to have been on his "bad" side, that's now a foregone conclusion after this trial.

In 1999, O.J.'s Heisman was sold to a Philadelphia--that wonderful town Poe loved so much--businessman named Tom Kreissman, except that he went and sold it to the man who O.J. and his co-conspirators attacked in a Vegas hotel, Alfred Beardsley:

Nevertheless, it’s believed that he bought the 1968 Heisman trophy -- the first and maybe only one ever to be auctioned — from the winner of that 1999 sale. The trophy was originally sold to Tom Kreissman of Philadelphia at Butterfield’s auction house on Sunset Boulevard for $230,000. But a source at Butterfield’s says Kreissman returned and sold it a couple of years later. It’s thought that Beardsley was the buyer. ("O.J. And why wouldn't Beardsley have "sold" or rented the thing out to raise money for himself and "the Juice"? Why not?

The unintelligent businessman told my brother, "I went to USC when O.J. was playing there, I've known him since then," and "I'm actually borrowing it from another collector." He exhaled on and on, painting a scenario in which all of these successful old school fans of O.J.'s were shuffling these artifacts around to hide them from the Goldman and Brown families who were doing their best to track down all of the assets he was selling off to pay them from the 1996 civil suit ruling ($33 million).

Hey, who says once something's sold that it's really "sold"?

Over time, O.J. had a number of folks around him who felt he "owed" them money, and the trophy changed hands several times before 1999, and likely afterward:

The man Simpson accused of stealing the items from him is Mike Gilbert, another one-time associate. As Simpson's licensing agent in the late 1990s, Gilbert admitted snatching Simpson's Heisman Trophy and other items from his client's Brentwood home as payment for money he said was owed to him. He later turned the items over to authorities, save the trophy's nameplate.

Gilbert swore he'd go to jail before turning the nameplate over to the Goldman family, which was trying to collect on the $33.5 million civil judgment won against Simpson. Yeah, real class act folks there. After 1999, the trail appears to grow cold, wikianswers-be-damned, the Wikiuniverse almost never being correct about anything.

I think that the Goldmans had a good idea this kind of shell game (aka "three card monty") was going on with wealthy fans of O.J., a constant shifting of the memorabilia around with a rental fee and lots of broken promises. Egomaniacs like Simpson can convince themselves of almost anything, the same applying to pea-brained American businessmen with penis envy.

My feeling is that these people aren't mere fans, but criminals--all of the players involved in ferring around O.J.'s memorabilia. Beardsley is just a flash point. I hope that this verdict smokes the rest of them out and that they pay the price of aiding a vile murderer simply because they love football too much. To these clowns, the murders don't even matter--only football does. What a pathetic bunch. I wouldn't use that Heisman for a doorstop, although it would make a great lighter/ashtray combination with a few modifications.

None of it matters, the game is over, finally, at long last. But I still have to wonder: where's O.J.'s 1968 Heisman...and why would anyone in their right mind want it? They may as well buy one of those lousy John Wayne Gacy oil-paintings while they're at it.
