540-459-9215: Mark Capansky (Former Intern for GOP Rep. Bob Goodlatte)

Woodstock, Virginia
--"Who's Mark Capansky?" you might be asking yourself right now. This one's "old," I found the listing in the "Sprint, January 22 2005-December 22 2005" file, page-17. He interned for congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.)--that is, based on whether the client of Pamela Martin & Associates was the father or the son. They both have the same name, minus any appellation such as "Jr." or "Sr." (or even "II" or "III").

CONGRESSMAN GOODLATTE ANNOUNCES ACADEMY NOMINATIONS
Washington, DC: Congressman Bob Goodlatte announced today that the following students have received nominations to military academies for the class entering the fall of 2005.
Mark Capansky, son of Mark and Polly Capansky, is currently a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University and a resident of Woodstock. He has been nominated to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Wesley Stout, son of Benny and Gloria Stout, is currently a senior at Stonewall Jackson High School and a resident of Mt. Jackson. He has been nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

“I am greatly honored to nominate these fine young students to compete for appointment to the United States Services Academies. Upon appointment, they will be attending outstanding schools and joining the world’s finest fighting force. I am confident they will serve our country with distinction. Folks in Shenandoah County can be proud of these hard working young men,” said Goodlatte. (house.gov/goodlatte, 01.27.2005)
It appears the son has been playing football off-and-on at Carnegie Mellon, and has been chosen by Goodlatte with another intern to attend the Naval Academy at Annapolis, and West Point, respectively. What did Mark Capansky do to earn this? The other intern is a High School student, but a football player is usually thought of as a "ladies man" in our culture--not a geeky High Schooler.

Perhaps they're both just very good at their jobs as
interns. On the other hand, one of them was calling Pamela Martin & Associates in September of that year, and it wasn't the kid. Are there earlier-entries for 540-459-9215? It should be looked-into. Note that J-7 isn't the first to "out" Capansky, however, it was TRex at http://www.firedoglake.com/ on July 9th in a comments-thread.

A major question is: which Mark Capansky is it? The call originates from Woodstock, Virginia, the family home. Mark Jr. is a humanities scholar at Carnegie Mellon, and is listed in the Class of 2008. Again, Capansky Jr. was an intern with Goodlatte at least before-and-during 2005. It's unclear when and if his time there has ended, though it's likely his internship ended somt time during 2005.

The call from Pamela Martin & Associates occurs on September 1st, 2005, at 8:02 pm, and lasts four minutes. It doesn't appear that Capansky was interning for Goodlatte when this call was made, but you never know
:
Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA06) has openings for unpaid interns for fall 2005 in his Washington, DC office. Duties include answering telephones, processing mail, guiding Capitol tours, greeting visitors, assisting staff with various projects, and attending hearings. Must be motivated, detail- oriented, and be able to multi-task. This is a great opportunity for college students and graduates seeking Hill experience. Virginia ties preferred, but not necessary. Applicant must be available for a minimum of 8 weeks. Please fax cover letters and resumes (202) 225-9681. If you have any questions, please contact Nathan Pick at (202) 225-5431.
And so, why would Mark Capansky Jr. (if he's the one who made the call) be at home from Pittsburgh (Carnegie Mellon) on September 1st, 2005--a Thursday (school night)? [Ed., 07.18.2007-probably a Labor Day break, but Carnegie Mellon's schedule for 2005 only lists Monday, Sept. 5th, 2005 with "no classes"]

J-7 figures that the time is really after midnight in Woodstock, Virginia, so it could have originally been been dialed surreptitiously by someone in the home--with the callback being the record--that night in the initial-contact. It's impossible to know what any of this means at this point, but there is a connection here with a Republican representative's office. What that connection is remains to be seen. Go to Croatan.
