WWW--I love this guy. He's very positive in his thinking in a realistic way and has a real disdain for a lot of New Age culture, that it's more about the money, selling crap. This new post he's done is incredible, I'm floored: a fully-armed luxury cruise! You have to see this to believe it, I'm floored by its very open and obvious stupidity and male overcompensation, a hallmark of dying gender roles in a thankfully dying order.

I first came upon Jay's site through the street fight with conspiracy nut Alex Constantine over whether the DC Madam hanged herself or was "suicided" by "government operatives," a theory that has no evidence to support beyond a few comments that Palfrey made to the press and other outlets. What it tends to ignore are the obvious suicide-cues she was putting-out all over the place, but selective cut-n'-pasting is what the fringe right are all about.

To make an overlong story short, I submitted a comment on Constantine's site which he approved, opening a real Pandora's Box for himself, with all kinds of recriminations flying in both directions. At one point, Constantine wrote a three-part, two-part series on little old me that still befuddles (check the labels for more), so he must have viewed me as some kind of a mortal threat to an already dying career in paranoiac historical fiction. What was the deal? He didn't have to accept the first comment, that's what moderation is for, and that's why I knew his threats of a defamation suit were a bluff, more bullshit from an arch-conservative asshole with a trust fund.

So, I went to Jay's site and posted some comments asking about his threats, and Jay was very kind with his anecdotes about Constantine, that he smoked dope like a chimney, was paranoid, and that in-sum, his writing was probably drug-fueled, and this is by-way of his own former publisher, Adam Parfrey (Feral House). Ironically, just a week-or-so earlier, I'd approached Parfrey about possibly publishing my DC Madam account, but I'm no longer interested in that avenue anyway. Welcome to the world of writing. It's not safe, and it ain't pretty. Constantine must have made threats to Beldo--which is pretty lame on his part--and the comments were pulled, but I'm sure someone, somewhere have captured them. If you did, I'd love to obtain them for later reference, they're a hoot (pun intended).

Anyway, none of this is to impugn on Jay, I think he's right on, far-in, far-out, and a very insightful and interesting writer all around with an interesting take on the way things are right now. He also sings and plays a mean guitar, I like the guy. Visit his site, it's worth the look and the read.

Notice how quiet most of them are about him? Why is that? He practically handed them their version of a Utopian America, an America devoid of regulation of the economy, our food supply, our water, our air--you know, nothing important, and they'd be happy to tell you that to do so would be "impugning on the rights of the individual," which is the core non-sequitur of their non-ideology that bears little-or-no resemblance to European Libertarianism just as American Freemasonry bears little with their "Continental" European brothers.

Why? Besides the fact that we're a stupid culture with a hang-up regarding the Wild West, their way has made us a business dominated society. Even in these hard times, they're not getting much traction, and here's why: we just had eight years of their ideology writ large and it failed. They're just as much a part of the right-wing constellation in America as the Republicans and were in fact founded by "former" members of the GOP in 1969. As we all know, the parades and the celebrations will be legendary and their time has come as a mainstream party (hmmmpff!). Good night, Gracie.

You're feeding them and keeping them on the air, making them rich, and pushing their message for them. To say this is stupid is redundant, like reacting to them. Reacting to reactionaries doesn't speak well for anyone, I'm as guilty as anyone, and it has to stop, and now, today.

If you want these turds to shrivel-up and slink back to the used car dealerships, the crooked law firms, and the gutters they were dragged out of, cleaned-up, put into a power suit, drugged, and propped-up in front of television cameras, stop watching and following them. There's literally no burning reason to. Lenny Bruce hit the nail on the head when he mocked 60s liberals for going to American Nazi Party rallies to heckle its leader George Lincoln Rockwell. In that sketch, the liberals were the only ones at the rally. Do the math. Quit feeding the tantrum-throwers and the Shibboleths, the frauds, put out there to distract you from the politicians, the lobbyists, and the crooked rich.

David Vitter at it again: Buying...lingerie?

Washington D.C.--Roll Call is reporting that Louisiana Republican Senator David Vitter might still be unable to control himself sexually: this Saturday, he was apparently spotted in a downtown D.C. store called "Filene's Basment" looking confused in the lingerie department. Hmmm, I bet he was. It's good he had his priorities straight on that very important day in our country's history when the health care reform bill came up for a vote that day:

Just hours before casting his health care vote, the sex-scandal-scarred Louisiana Republican looked “a bit lost” amid the ladies’ unmentionables, our spy said. Our witty, bargain-seeking HOH tipster mused on a few reasons that the Senator might be there.

“Is he looking for some ‘extra support’ for tonight’s big health care floor vote or is he up to his old habits?” the spy wondered.

Considering his past behaviors, I don't think he was looking for something for his wife...but you never know. I wish I was making this shit up, it's good copy for fiction. Larry Flynt's investigator Dan Moldea found that Vitter had been voting on legislation when he had a phone call to the DC Madam's prostitution service, Pamela Martin & Associates.

Does it end there? For a walking disaster area, how could it end until that time that comes for us all? No, earlier this month Senator Vitter was confronted at a town hall meeting in Louisiana and had to turn tail and run, admitting defeat when confronted by a rape victim and was unable to explain his vote (so he ran away).

And, and, darn you Al Franken, for caring about women:

Vitter got into trouble with another woman earlier this month.

Confronted by an impassioned rape survivor at a town hall, Sen. David Vitter tried everything from sympathizing to deflecting blame onto the Obama administration for his decision to vote against an anti-rape amendment.

Vitter was one of 30 Republican senators who voted against Sen. Al Franken's amendment, passed in the Senate last month, that would de-fund government contractors who prevent employees from seeking justice when they have been raped.

The inspiration for the amendment was Jamie Leigh Jones, who was allegedly gang-raped by co-workers at Halliburton subsidiary KBR while on assignment in Baghdad, and was then prevented from pursuing the matter in courts. Isn't it a good thing the mainstream media kept a lid on that story? Thanks again. I guess he has buddies to protect over at KBR, him being a strong advocate of war-profiteering. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, even PETA!

WWW--Have a warm and safe holiday, don't eat too much causing a food buzz and vomiting and be sure to tell the chef that everything's great! Also, whatever you do, watch the PETA ad that they won't be showing on television but are showing on television and making my head hurt. I'm not a vegetarian, so I'll be enjoying the full effect of this holiday, thanks Squanto!

C'mon, most card-carrying PETA members wouldn't want me to hunt and eat the wild turkeys around our house either. Yes, factory farming is bad, family farms were much more environmentally sound, and if you want to attack it, fine, do ads. But not like the ones they do. Grossing people out isn't going to accomplish a lot and most of us aren't as neurotic about what's at the end of a fork. You can tell from most of the material that PETA puts out that they used to think meat was made at the grocery store and someone burst their bubble. Don't preach, nobody wants to hear it's "immoral."

Yes, I find the conditions of those facilities horrific--that's what government regulations are for, go get a bill sponsored. Better yet, how about some suggesting some alternatives, like a decentralized farming model that moves away from monoculture? But nobody wants to hear that "it's wrong" to eat animals, it's not a moral argument and more a religious belief.

The photo to the top right shows the building in which John Dillinger, Homer Van Meter and Baby Face Nelson robbed the Merchant's Bank on June 30, 1934, to the left of the front-end of the car in the center of the shot, a building with arches and a tall front. It's now a Cambodian restaurant. The building to the bottom left was once an outlet of the Chicago Stock Exchange, or at least that's what I've been led to believe. The State Theater was featured in some shots of the Party Monster "Shockumentary" that was aired on Cinemax in 1998, about South Bend native and club kid promoter Michael Alig. There hasn't been a hell of a lot going on here since Studebaker closed in 1964.

You have to love it when aspiring candidates dip their toes into the water to see whether the public loves or hates them. According to a recent AP poll, Americans almost roundly hate former GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin, but there she is, all over the media, all over the place, being handed microphones and positioned in front of the cameras like Dick Cheney and his diseased brood. I should mention that they hate Rudolph Giuliani as well, contrary to another unpopular delusion.

Say what you want about Americans, but being immersed in advertising 24/7 has taught them one thing: they know bullshit when they see it.

The rest is like dating and bad relationships where we kid ourselves that that special someone might change one day, something that's going on with President Obama right now as one campaign promise after another is discarded. It's not gonna happen. Like any bad relationship, you tell the bastards to change or get out; if you don't, you only have yourself to blame for what comes after that. But some relationships should never have been entered into in the first place...

Looking at Palin, it's obvious to all but the most delusional that we're being presented with yet another pile of shit in her and the message she's spouting is equally worthless and part of the past that got us into the mess we're currently in. The public at least senses this, but it's really down to the presentation and her attitude, something that most can't put a finger on, but know intuitively anyway. There's something atavistic about her, something one could identify squarely in Greek or historical tragedy, something about blindness and unbelievable hubris that finally wrecks a nation.

Palin has said that she would like to play a role in the 2012 elections, "if the people will have me." But the people don't want her and it isn't dissuading her from forcing herlself on them, just like most mainstream politicians. More importantly: Is she really capable of breaking the Gangbang World Record, and could this non-sequitur I'm writing ever be as leading as the memes the mainstream constantly bombards all of us with? "My ambition, if you will, my desire [clearly, her bloodlust] is to help our country in whatever role that may be [great, how about hostess?], and I cannot predict what that will be [I can, and it's not being president], what doors [the gates of hell] will be open in the year 2012," then she sacrificed a small mammal and made some bizarre utterances, and attempted to read its entrails, a little haruspicy for old time's sake.

Palin recalls the crazed Maenads, a cult to Dionysus, in her mindless drive to power, any power at all, for no particular purpose but her own. She most certainly isn't the Pythia of Delphi who only told those who came to her where they were screwing-up. What be the fate of Orpheus and Mount Parnassus? Ruins. Sometimes, even a little help from the divine and our genetic material isn't going to save us.

"I'd probably rather write than talk." This is true, but most men would rather fuck than eat, and Palin's looks are clearly a part of why she was chosen by a decidedly sexist and racist Republican Party leadership to run in the first place. Now she's "going rogue," something she probably did well when she fucked the football team back home in Alaska during her salad days. Welcome to the United State of America, not that Alaska's part of it. But ask anyone--any man--and they'll tell you that most of us wouldn't want to be in that gangbang line, huh-uh. Lisa Sparxxx claims to have had sex with 919 men, which is clearly depraved and as pointless as a Palin candidacy--but what's the point of it all? No one had to tell Americans that politics was masturbation. It takes a nation, and lubrication, but there's no lubricant on earth that's going put Sarah together again when she was never whole or sane in the first place and the public never wanted her, let alone knew who the hell she was before 2008. At best, she's helped us see what part of the public is as crazy and detached from reality as she is, and that at least is a good thing.

The ancient truly manifesting in the modern world can only be a disaster, but we might be better served with the Apollonian were there no other option. Sarah Palin is the Oracle without any eyes, the Blind Seer, a Shibboleth, the Hierophant. Don't underestimate her, she is walking, shambling death.

Site Meter--I'm getting a bunch of these again! This is why we should think hard before we post provocative photographs of ourselves online. The most galling thing about Jaenelle posting them at StormFront? Her epigram on her posting profile: "I'm taken." OK, you post these sexually provocative pictures of yourself online, then you get irritated by all the flies it attracts? What a Nazi. Titler...or is it "titular"? How stupid can you get? This stupid, as stupid as Jaenelle and her moronic admirers.

Ten good things to come out of the current economic crisis

1. Less junk mail: Yes, I know, we've been getting bombarded with tons of it during the never-ending elections, the health care debate, and the rest of the astroturf and Lollipop Guild crowd. But this is good, and there are trees breathing a little easier right now.

2. The death of the myth of the American Dream: It was never real anyway, and who wanted except the dopes making all of the money? The rest of us got thrown the bones for pointless labor. At least now the mask is off and it's going to be harder to pacify us with crappy consumer products whose creation is destroying the natural environment. Productivity = death.

3. No more talk about American exceptionalism except from the obviously deluded: After 2001, I wouldn't have been responsible for my actions if I had heard another pigslob uttering this bullshit. Got tell people on an Indian reservation and the urban ghettos. Tell a homeless veteran. Now that the mask is off, people don't want to hear your bullshit and aren't listening anymore.

4. Far less talk of how "great" Ronald Reagan was, "the greatest president that ever lived": Not only wasn't he not great, he left office in disgrace over Iran-Contra (trading weapons-for-hostages with terrorists); left the economy in ruins (now outdone by another GOP "majority" and president); pushed unnecessary and unprecedented defense spending; waged an illegal proxy war in Central America; nearly got us all killed in a nuclear war at least once; helped smash many unions, something that hurts the American worker to this day; did not "win" the Cold War and actually wanted it to continue; was not a good actor, ever, by any standard; was little more than a puppet of big business and was assuredly senile upon his unfortunate inauguration into office; and was not elected by a real majority vote since only a little over 22% of the eligible voters at the time even voted, giving him about a quarter of one of the worst turnouts in an American election (thanks to cynicism generated by his own party over Watergate).

5. We're polluting the planet much less: Fewer jobs = Less "disposable income" = Less productivity = less pollution = a better world (and cycle it around, again and again).

6. Wal-Mart is making a much smaller profit: See five.

7. The racists are being forced out of hiding: This always occurs when things turn sour. It's easier to hit a target that's out in the open. Hiding was safe, harder to isolate and neutralize, but now, they're running around yammering because they think it's safe to. Meanwhile, people like me are taking notes, taking down names...

8. The myth of capitalism is finally dying: Can't you hear it? Then get the shit out of your ears. Even former Treasury Sec. Hank Paulson said earlier this year that had they not done the bailout with the banks that there would have been "riots" and "a loss-of-faith in the system," something many of us have been hoping for all along. The ultimate irony in all of this is that the bailouts aren't going to work. Wall Street rammed its representatives into Congress and the White House, nixing most chances for reform, the very thing that would prevent another internal collapse of the financial system. Nothing succeeds like failure, but thankfully, none of this can last. The real collapse will come anyway, and there will be no remnants of classical capitalism left when it's over.

9. The Republican Party is finally on-the-verge of permanent collapse: But hurry up, will ya? I mean it, quit fucking around, we've tolerated you assholes enough. Besides, we'll have to take down the Democratic Party after that since they'll be emboldened with your absence. You were always the real "fifth column," the real "anti-Americans." You are the enemy within, and so are you children, the Libertarians especially, and the rest of what's left of the right in America. Go away. Fuck off.

10. The very strong possibility that the generation-long routing of the working-class by the rich has failed and that nature is going to take them down: Hey, that's great, you get your temporary dictatorship. It won't last. It won't save your wealth. It won't save your dirty energy and industries. Nature is coming for you, and you will lose. Your grandchildren will live in the same toxic environment as everyone else as hurricanes and tornados pummel human civilization into submission. Deserts will emerge where there was once farmland, and your militaries will grind to a halt, ending any semblance of power you might have once had. The wealthy are not gods. They are not nature. Nature always wins.

A'murka

Watching the boob tube, you could be forgiven for thinking that we're living in a Hanna-Barbera land in a Screen Gems universe.

Knowing where the human race has been, you could be forgiven in believing that there's no hope.

Studying the ancient texts, you might be led to believe that we were doomed from the start, that we're nothing but a fluke, an accident, and that we'll never change.

Believing in others isn't so hard when you realize that humanity is always yearning for a better world, a better life where love and harmony rule.

Understanding that we really are the last stand of the human race and not necessarily special, and knowing that humanity yearns for love, caring, and acceptance, is knowing that we have a good place to start...

DEVO: Chicago, the Vic. 11.13.2009, 8 PM Night Two-Freedom of Choice (review)

Chicago, Illinois--Last night's Chicago performance was a barn burner for the many Midwestern fans of DEVO, itself being a Midwestern band going back to the early 1970s. As a matter of fact, the members of DEVO met at Kent State University during the Vietnam War era, some were members of SDS, and bassist Gerald Casale helped organize the antiwar demonstration in the spring of 1970 in which the infamous shootings took place. If you stay in the Midwest long enough, you get as weird as these guys or weirder, mostly from boredom.

Far from being "nerds," or "yuppies," DEVO began as a multimedia arts collective and still operates as one to this day. The real irony in all of this is that they never broke up and have continued to record in their Sunset Strip "Mutato" studio doing soundtrack and commercial work, the most well known being with director Wes Anderson.

Like several other old school punk and postpunk bands that have been touring this year--like the Pixies and even R.E.M.--the spuds were doing entire albums live and in their original running order. Night one was "Are We Not Men?" from 1978 (a punk classic) which sold out so quickly that another night was added to their Chicago appearance. Night two brought the entire "Freedom of Choice" LP from 1980, and yes, "Whip It" was in full bloom with all of its punch and glory. The music hasn't aged and the entire original lineup looked healthier and happier than they have in--well--over a decade, and the mood was celebratory, even for Chicago. From the opening guitar-riffs of "Girl U Want" to the more obscured album cuts like "Gates of Steel" and Mr. B's Ballroom," there was a real sense that this music hasn't aged at all...which was interesting since there were probably no more than maybe two dozen twenty-somethings to be seen. The majority of the crowd was 30-and-up, and with the bar, it was an 18-and-older show. But what the hell, people are broke all over the place these days! The audience was more fun than people watching at Wal-Mart. The icing on the cake was the gorgeous Bettie Page-style model coming out with her boxing-round cards emblazoned with "Track 1," and so on.

Some of the best times I had was looking at all of the former New Wave glam queens, now in their forties and early fifties, but still looking pretty good! Many concertgoers literally hadn't seen the group since the 1980s, or if they were like this writer it was their first time ever. The merchandising will be legendary, but there was nothing especially crass about it and it all appeared to have been made in America. All said, it was exactly what you would have wanted out of a DEVO concert and that includes Mark Mothersbaugh coming out onstage and singing "Beautiful World" in the second set dressed as the utterly grotesque "Boojie Boy," then regaling the audience in a totally surreal account of DEVO's trek to Los Angeles and meeting Michael Jackson, that he was dead, and how great it would be if he could rise from the grave like in the video "Thriller" to tell us all "what a beautiful world it truly is." The brutal truth was that there was no irony to be had!

But really, having been a budding teenager listening to Freedom of Choice when it was new, this was just a real road to Mecca moment, pure bliss. Not only is DEVO still great, they're professional and can still stop on a dime. Most of these guys are hitting their sixties, but the joy and the appreciation were so palpable that Mark Mothersbaugh, and even Gerald Casale, could only smile along with the rest of us and enjoy a very special tour in a very unique cultural moment. One of the greatest surprises of the evening was the dusting-off of a very old DEVO song, "Be Stiff," going back to the mid-1970s, almost one of the earliest songs that they ever did. Hey, they weren't going to do "Oh No! It's DEVO!" (1982) or "Shout!" (1984). Here's to art and crowd pleasers! Whoever said you can't have both in art was wrong.
