You ever notice that all those rednecks and meth-heads (often inhabiting the same body!) who are yammering about "We're all going to be dragged kicking and screaming to FEMA camps man, any day now!" are all white? Did you ever notice that none of them gave a shit about all those African-Americans languishing in FEMA trailers for roughly two years except when they thought they were getting a "free ride"? Yeah, me too, but really: where was the outrage over many of these same people having to inhale formaldehyde for months? No conspiracy there, agreed, just not for the same reason they might unthink it was so.
Imagine had these refugees been white, middle-class. Imagine that they had been taken there, sometimes against their wills like in 1927 when another storm ravaged the place, to be held for a a very long time with few rights to speak of in toxic surroundings. The Libertarians, the rednecks, the red-headed stepchildren of the American Left who have smoked too much dope for decades with predictable results, have an erection (nipples too) over FEMA this, FEMA that, but the slant is always the same: an anti-government agenda that's arch-conservative, almost certainly baseless in the terms their putting them in and basically racist at heart.
Seriously, where was the alarm over these poor black families being forcibly relocated, permanently in many cases, away from New Orleans? Wasn't this your legendary FEMA camp theory based on your own criteria? No, these were only a gaggle of dirty niggers (to you), so it didn't matter. It didn't matter when a naturalized Middle Eastern businessman was detained by private security in a bus station...that was OK and then repainted by assholes on the right like Alex Jones as a purely government move. The message must always be that it's the big, bad Boogeyman "gubmint," never the most serious threat to liberty across the globe, multinational corporations.
This shit is a ploy, conscious or not, it is code. We know you have an agenda. We know you're afraid of black people, of minorities. We know you're ignorant, that you're the boring crank at a party that everyone ignores for good reason. Now shut up about FEMA camps you racist, yammering retards.
ADVENTURES IN WRITING! Operating from Northern Indiana, this blog will cover aspects of culture with a bent on humor and the relentless belittling of the mainstream media, politics, and the syphilitic GOP (both major parties). News analysis happens. Put on your adult diapers, this gwine'-a'-be a bourgeois hoot. Some much needed hilarity for working class North Americans and international readers. I'm the part of this human world that bites back. Let's roll.

Who got to Haiti first?
Port-au-Prince, Haiti--Who got there first? The Cubans, many-of-whom were already there in their usual form: as doctors. Why were they already there? Because the developed world is on their neck in Haiti and the place has been mismanaged before the earthquake and since the time of Columbus when the island of Hispaniola was first conquered and settled, primarily for exploitation. Cuba is part of this same legacy of colonialism and understands its effects, say what you will about the regime there. Hispaniola has been a hellhole for centuries, ever since the first white men planted their flags on its shores. The abuse is ongoing.
That's the part that never changes in poor Haiti, that first black republic, something they've been punished for ever since. Don't let anyone fool you on this central point: Haiti was a disaster before the earthquakes, a prototypical example of where the rest of us might be headed, including the centuries of ecological devastation spurred-on by the desire to exploit, to profit, from the misery of enslaved others. What the world should be doing is pledging to rebuild Haiti and its economy and to leave the place alone. We know that's not going to happen anytime soon.
But make no mistake: The Cubans made it to the Haitian-side of Hispaniola first, and not simply thanks to proximity. Will we have a rerun of Katrina? We already have, and under a black president. It took American forces three days to reach Haiti in significant numbers, just more abuse and negligence, the depriving of people of basic human rights.

After the failure of Katrina, you'd want to call it " OPERATION UNIFIED RESPONSE" too. What I'd like to know is why Doctors Without Borders' planes are being turned away at the Port Au Prince airport, not being allowed to land. At least that's the word going around now.

George W. Bush's final press conference as president

Washington D.C.--What did you expect? It was always going to be pathetic. George W. Bush has always been the kind of personality who wanted to be liked. Based on this fact, it was strange to put someone in there to use-up all of his political capital and the public's goodwill for the purposes of making the few richer, and he's feeling the heat like never before.
He should be after being the one who did as much deregulation of the economy as he humanly (and illegally) could. George W. Bush has presided over what can only be called the largest corporate crime wave in American history, the list is almost endless. What's more, it probably has no other human precedent just based on its own sheer scale. But he had help, and it was bipartisan: Congress.
That he's "feeling the love" these days is good, and President-elect Obama is also being confronted to create a special prosecution to investigate the crimes of the Bush II administration from many quarters that cross the artificial boundaries between "left" and "right." Welcome to the electronic frontier, Mr. President-elect, we're watching. The honeymoon has already ended, and it's time to deliver, and fast. Yes, the economy needs top priority, but we're going to have to be insistent on a special prosecutor to investigate the crimes of the Bush II administration. That's why he was throwing his little fit today--he's got that hunted look in his eyes again, and it's something to treasure for the rest of our lives.
The majority of Americans want justice and accountability from this outgoing administration and aren't going to accept Obama's mealy-mouthisms of "putting the past behind us."
As the president blurted today: "Pathetic." Yes, that sums-up his tragic time holding office in the White House. It also sums-up the GOP and those loyal to her. Fun's over GOP, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. You and your cronies had a weird sense of victimhood, because it was fictional and based on your queer sense of entitlement to do whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted to. Game over.
If the Republican Party doesn't change with the tenor of this new era, they're done for. I have no problem with this, but then it's going to be time to dismantle the Democratic Party.
To all members of the Bush II administration, both former and present: We'll be watching you and pursuing you in the world's courts--all the co-conspirators under George W. Bush's watch--for the rest of your natural lives if necessary. Think about that the next time you purchase an airline ticket to another country, or when you enter specific counties, New England towns, and a growing number of cities within the territorial United States.
There are already warrants for your arrests patiently waiting to be served in many of these places. Now, I understand that your former-and-disgraced Attorney General Alberto Gonzales cannot find a job with any law firm. Welcome to reality, because when large law firms do this, it's because they know the long arm of the law is coming, soon. Time to feel the love. What a terrible president, the worst that I'll probably ever live to see, and I can remember Nixon. Both Republicans, both embarrassing, neither were men, but stupid people have to vote too. Sometimes, they steal elections and manage to fight their way into office. Bye-bye, asshole!

Thank you God: Hurricane Gustav underscores Republican inaction since Katrina
The Gulf Coast--The Industrial Canal's levee is overtopping again. Once again, we're seeing damages in the billions. Nearly 2 million people living in and around New Orleans and the neighboring parishes have fled. There appears to be no substantial government reaction. John McCain and the Republican National Committee have suspended nearly all activities at their convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. It seems that God has retained its sense of humor.
Almost never failing to say the wrong thing at the right time, candidate McCain stuck his foot in his mouth stating, "We must take off our Republican hat[s], and put on our American hat[s]." Or something like that, since the media doesn't appear to agree on the exact wording.
Well, right: "We can be heroes, just for one day," stated David Bowie so eloquently. And that's about as far as it's ever going to go. McCain and the GOP lack such eloquence, which comes from being on the wrong side of history. After all, besides being the un-American party, the GOP represents what's inhuman about humanity. The greed, the corruption, the venality, the vanity, the ignorance--and of course--temerity.
Three-years-ago, John McCain was eating cake with President George W. Bush while tens-of-thousands of Americans were left stranded in New Orleans, it's environs, and much of the rest of the Gulf Coast hit by hurricane Katrina. Very little has changed, and one can imagine the sighs of relief that were exhaled when the Bush canceled his speech before the Republican convention to cover his ass.
What's bizarre is that he went to Texas to do it, but he likes it there. We like it when he goes there, just not when he comes back. Americans are waiting with bated breath for him to never return from there to Washington D.C. ever again. God doesn't like the Democrats anymore than the Republicans, incidentally--he just hates Republicans more.
And now we're hearing that Senator McCain is working to "lead a humanitarian effort" to help down in the Gulf. That's great, but it's not really noble when you contributed to the incompetence, neglect, and corruption that created the mess that still exists down in New Orleans and the neighboring parishes 3 years and 3 days to the day of Katrina's landfall and the overtopping and breaching of the levee system there. That's a failure of government shared by both parties, but the majority of the responsibility resides with the antisocial GOP.
The GOP tends to play their hand too often (they suck at poker): now they're harping over a joke that a former DNC Chairman (Don Fowler, who was Chairman one year, from 1995-1996) made on an air-flight, seizing on it in their pathetic desperation to avoid any-and-all responsibility for their actions. The majority of Americans are used to this, and it's become tiresome. Fowler's comments aren't significantly different from that of religious lunatic James Dobson's bait-and-switch for the GOP when he commanded his zombie followers to pray for rain at the Democratic convention in Denver so that Obama couldn't give his speech--except that Fowler was kidding. Those "oogah-boogah" folks would be funny if they had no effect on the rest of us.
The writing's on the wall: if the business community keeps getting its way (greased by dirty politicians in both parties, but even worse with the GOP), then nature's going to strike-back and correct things. Nobody on earth can change this fact. It really is a very religious and spiritual-themed moment, isn't it? Nature has struck-back once again at a ridiculous economic order that overdeveloped in the region surrounding New Orleans, cutting-away precious marshland barriers that prevented such flooding for countless centuries, long before Europeans ever settled here in North America. That's not just stupidity, it's lower than animal behavior, and headed for the dustbin of history. Thank God for that.
